Quick answer

Pick Wistia if you want video that generates leads and feeds a marketing stack, with webinars, CRM automation and watch data scored into your pipeline, all from a dashboard and no code; pick Cloudflare Stream if you want cheap, reliable global delivery on one API, you are comfortable driving it through code, and you will build the player, selling layer and tracking around it yourself.

### Pros and cons

#### Wistia

What we like

* Real webinar software plus a polished, on-brand, ad-free player, in one platform.
* The Automation Suite pushes video and webinar engagement into HubSpot, Marketo and Pardot, so watch behaviour becomes a lead signal your sales team can act on.
* Heatmaps, engagement graphs and A/B testing give marketers serious reporting, and there is a free plan to start.

The catch

* It is built for B2B content and demand generation, not cold direct-response VSLs, so it lacks sound-first autoplay-restart and cart-level sale attribution.
* Costs climb quickly at scale: the lead-capture Signals plan is $329 a month, extra users are $25 each, and storage and bandwidth are capped.

#### Cloudflare Stream

What we like

* Genuinely cheap and simple to reason about. Two dimensions only: $5 per 1,000 minutes stored and $1 per 1,000 minutes delivered, with encoding, upload and bandwidth included. No seats, no tiers, no separate egress bill. Developers on Hacker News call it an honest paid platform.
* The reliability and reach of Cloudflare's own network. Stream runs on the same infrastructure that moves a big share of the world's web traffic, so playback holds up globally and under load without you managing a CDN.
* One API from upload to playback, for on-demand and live. RTMP and SRT ingest, automatic adaptive-bitrate HLS and DASH output, a built-in player or your own. A developer can wire video into a product in an afternoon.
* No surprise bandwidth math. Delivery is billed per minute watched, not per gigabyte, so a large file costs no more to serve than a short one of the same length.

The catch

* It is infrastructure, not a selling tool. There are no in-video CTAs, no lead-capture forms, no split tests, and no analytics that tie a play to a sale. Everything that makes the clip actually sell, you build or bolt on yourself.
* The per-delivered-minute model bites the exact content this audience runs. A talking-head VSL or evergreen webinar at low bitrate costs the same per delivered minute as 4K, so a cheap-to-produce clip with a big audience can get disproportionately expensive. Do the math for your view count before you commit.
* Content protection is do-it-yourself. Stream uses signed URLs and token auth, not studio DRM like Widevine or FairPlay. Forum users report shared signed links get passed to third-party players, and setting the keys up trips people up. Fine for casual gating, thin for premium course video.
* No free tier for Stream itself, and it assumes you can code. Once you store a video you buy at least one $5 storage block, there is no drag-and-drop marketing dashboard, and the whole product is built to be driven by an API. A non-technical seller will feel that.

### The real split: a marketing platform against raw delivery

Both host your video and hand you a way to embed it, which is why they land on the same shortlist. What each was built to be sits at opposite ends of the market. Wistia is a marketing platform that happens to host video: an on-brand, ad-free player, real webinar software, heatmaps, A/B testing, calls to action and lead capture, all wired to push watch behaviour into a CRM. Cloudflare Stream is developer infrastructure. You drive it through an API, it encodes and delivers on the world's largest network, and everything above the raw video, the player styling, the access rules, any selling or tracking, you build yourself.

That one difference decides most of what follows. If you want a platform that already does the marketing job and needs no engineer, Wistia ships it and Cloudflare ships a toolkit. If you want cheap, dependable delivery at scale and you have a developer to wire up the rest, Cloudflare is built for exactly that and Wistia is not trying to compete on raw infrastructure economics. Ask who is going to run the thing, and whether the video has to generate leads out of the box, and the pair usually sorts itself. Neither, we should say up front, ties a play to a cart-verified sale, which is a separate job we come back to below.

### Where they actually differ

**What comes in the box.** Wistia gives you a working marketing platform: a polished, ad-free player, webinars, in-video calls to action and lead-capture forms, heatmaps and engagement graphs, A/B testing, and an Automation Suite that scores a long watch as a lead and pushes it into HubSpot, Marketo or Pardot. Cloudflare Stream gives you resumable upload, automatic adaptive-bitrate encoding, HLS and DASH output, a customizable built-in player or your own, and live streaming over RTMP and SRT, all through one clean API. What it does not give you is any selling or marketing layer at all. No CTA on the timeline, no lead form, no engagement reporting, no CRM hook. For a marketer that gap is the whole story; for a developer building video into a product, the bare API is the appeal.

**Who has to run it.** Wistia is built for a marketer who does not write code: you upload, set your CTAs and lead forms in a dashboard, connect your CRM, and paste an embed. Cloudflare assumes you can code. There is no marketing interface, the product is meant to be driven by an API, and even basic access control is set up with signed URLs and tokens. If nobody on your side writes code, that is not a small caveat. It is the difference between shipping a lead-generating video this week and not shipping it at all.

**Protecting the video.** Wistia gives you the privacy controls a marketing host needs: password protection and domain-level restriction so an embed only plays on your own site. Cloudflare relies on signed URLs and token authentication, not studio DRM like Widevine or FairPlay, and forum users report that shared signed links get handed to third-party players. For casual gating either is fine; for premium course video that must not leak, neither is a dedicated protection tool, and Wistia's dashboard controls are at least ready without setup.

**What you pay for, and how.** This is the sharpest difference, and it runs backwards from most delivery matchups. Wistia sells a flat plan that bundles the whole marketing platform: you pay the monthly fee whether ten people watch or ten thousand, up to the plan's storage and bandwidth caps. Cloudflare bills purely on usage: $5 per 1,000 minutes stored and $1 per 1,000 minutes delivered, with encoding and bandwidth included, and no base plan fee. So you are not comparing two prices for the same thing. Wistia's fee buys a marketing stack; Cloudflare's meter buys only bytes. For a modest audience Cloudflare's delivery bill can be a few dollars, but it leaves you with no selling layer. For a large B2B audience, Cloudflare's per-minute meter can climb past Wistia's flat fee and still deliver less. The full worked example is in the pricing section below.

**Reliability and reach.** Both are safe on uptime, for different reasons. Wistia has served marketing video at scale for years with little downtime in the record, and it is a proven place to trust with a launch. Cloudflare Stream runs on the same infrastructure that carries a large share of the world's web traffic, so playback holds up globally and under load without you managing a CDN, and developers on Hacker News call it an honest, well-run paid platform, if a touch expensive for on-demand. For live at scale or a huge global public audience over one API, Cloudflare's network is hard to beat; for a finished, dependable marketing platform you do not have to operate, Wistia.

**Selling features, and the thing to be clear about.** Wistia can capture a lead, put a CTA on the video, run webinars and score watch behaviour into a CRM. Cloudflare does none of it, by design. But it is worth being precise about the ceiling on both. Neither carries a per-second retention curve split by buyers and non-buyers, neither runs split tests decided on sales, and neither ties a play to a cart-verified sale or fires that confirmed sale back to the ad platforms server-side. Wistia scores a watch as a marketing lead; that is demand generation, not revenue attribution, and that is a different job again.

### If the video's job is a direct-response sale: TrackPlay

There is a third situation neither of these was built for. If your video is a VSL running on cold paid traffic, and the only number that matters is whether the play produced a sale, TrackPlay is aimed straight at that job. Wistia can capture a lead and score it into your CRM; Cloudflare confirms the file was delivered. TrackPlay hosts the video behind one embed and ties every second watched to who actually bought, then posts the cart-verified sale back to Meta, TikTok and GA4 server-side, onto the play that earned it, from direct-response carts like ClickBank, ClickFunnels and Digistore24\. It is built to tell you which ad, which play and which cut of the video produced revenue, a different job from marketing the video or moving bytes.

It backs that with a player made for cold traffic: sound-first autoplay, timed CTA cards and watch gates. Retention is drawn per second and split into buyers versus non-buyers with the pitch moment marked, and split tests are decided on real sales with statistical significance rather than on views, run under one embed so ad links and campaign learning never reset. Billing is on plays, not bandwidth or minutes, every feature ships on every paid plan from $29 a month, and there is a no-card free plan of 1,000 plays a month, watermarked, plus a 14-day trial of the paid features.

The catch is real, and it is the flip side of that focus. TrackPlay is narrow by design: built for paid-traffic VSL conversion, it is not a general video host or a B2B content library, so it has none of the channels, SEO pages or webinar tooling of a Wistia, and none of Cloudflare's raw delivery scale. If you are running webinars, feeding a marketing stack, hosting a general video library, or building video into a product through an API, Wistia or Cloudflare is the right home and TrackPlay is not for that work. It is also a very new product with thin outside proof: the testimonials are on its own site, there is little third-party review footprint yet, and signup is currently invite-only, which is what you would expect of a platform this recent. Weigh it when the sale, not the lead or the view, is the goal.

### Which one for you

**Choose Wistia** if the video's job is B2B marketing and demand generation: webinars, in-video CTAs and lead capture, heatmaps and A/B testing, and an automation layer that scores a watch into HubSpot, Marketo or Pardot, all from a dashboard with no code and on a proven platform you can trust with a launch. Go in knowing the price is a real jump, that the lead-scoring automation sits on a much higher tier, and that it is a marketing platform, not a conversion or attribution tool.

**Choose Cloudflare Stream** if you want cheap, dependable global delivery and live streaming on one API, you are comfortable driving it through code, and you will build the player, access rules, CTAs and tracking yourself. It suits high-bitrate content, live at scale, and teams already inside the Cloudflare ecosystem. Do the per-minute math against your view count first, because for a light file served to a big audience it adds up, and remember it will not market or sell the video for you out of the box.

**Choose TrackPlay** if the video is a VSL on paid traffic and you are measured on sales: you want the play tied to the cart and the conversion fired back to the ad platforms, not a scored lead or a delivery log.

### Pricing, compared

**Wistia** sells plans, billed annually. There is a free tier with 25 GB of storage, one user and Wistia branding on the player. Business is $79 a month billed annually, which is where heatmaps, A/B testing, calls to action and lead capture live, with three users and higher storage and bandwidth caps. The lead-scoring Automation Suite is a separate, higher tier, Business plus Signals, at $329 a month billed annually; extra users are $25 each and Enterprise is on quote. There is no cheap middle tier, so the step from free to paying is a real jump, and long-term users on Reddit note the bill climbs quickly as you scale. The fee is flat whatever the traffic, up to the plan's caps, so it is easy to budget.

**Cloudflare Stream** charges only for usage: $5 per 1,000 minutes stored and $1 per 1,000 minutes delivered, with encoding, upload and bandwidth included. There is no plan fee and no free tier, so once you store a video you buy at least one $5 storage block. The bill is legible, but the per-minute meter ignores bitrate: a 480p talking-head video costs the same per delivered minute as a 4K film, and it buys you delivery only, with no marketing tooling at all.

**A worked example.** Take a 45-minute webinar recording watched in full by 10,000 people in a month. On Cloudflare that is 450,000 delivered minutes at $1 per 1,000, so about $450 plus a few dollars of storage, for delivery and nothing else. On Wistia the same audience costs only the flat plan fee, $79 a month on Business or $329 with the Signals automation, provided it fits inside the plan's caps, and that fee includes the webinar tooling, lead capture and CRM scoring Cloudflare has none of. So for a large B2B audience Wistia's flat fee can undercut Cloudflare's meter and still deliver a whole marketing platform; Cloudflare's pay-as-you-go only wins on cost for a small or spiky audience, or for high-bitrate content where you would rather pay by the minute than by a plan tier and you do not need any of the marketing layer. Model your own view count against your plan caps before you commit.

### Frequently asked questions

Is Wistia or Cloudflare Stream better for marketing video?

Wistia, clearly. It carries webinars, in-video CTAs, lead-capture forms, heatmaps and A/B testing, and an Automation Suite that scores a watch into HubSpot, Marketo or Pardot, so the video does demand-generation work out of the box. Cloudflare Stream only delivers the file; every marketing feature you would build around the embed yourself. For a B2B team doing lead gen, Wistia is built for the job.

Do I need a developer to use either one?

For Cloudflare Stream, effectively yes. It is an API-driven product with no marketing dashboard, and even basic access control is set up with signed URLs and tokens. Wistia is built for a marketer who does not write code: you upload, set CTAs and lead forms in a dashboard, connect your CRM, and paste an embed. If nobody on your side codes, Wistia is the one you can ship this week.

Why is Cloudflare Stream so much cheaper at low volume?

They price different things. Wistia charges a flat plan that bundles webinars, marketing features and support, from $79 a month on annual billing. Cloudflare charges only for storage and delivery, $5 per 1,000 minutes stored and $1 per 1,000 minutes delivered, with no plan fee, so a low-volume account can cost a few dollars. But that Cloudflare bill buys delivery only. For a large audience the per-minute meter can climb past Wistia's flat fee while still giving you no marketing tooling, so cheaper at low volume does not mean cheaper overall.

Can either one capture leads or add a CTA on the video?

Wistia can, on its Business plan and up: lead-capture forms and calls to action on the video, plus engagement analytics, with lead scoring and CRM automation on Business plus Signals. Cloudflare Stream cannot, by design, it is raw delivery, so any gate or CTA is something you build around the embed yourself. Neither, though, posts a cart-verified sale back to the ad platforms server-side; that server-side attribution is what a direct-response tool like TrackPlay is built for.

Which is better for a VSL on paid traffic?

Neither, on its own. Wistia scores a watch as a marketing lead and Cloudflare confirms delivery, but neither ties a play to the sale or fires that conversion back to Meta, TikTok or GA4, and neither splits retention by buyers versus non-buyers. If the video is a VSL and you are measured on sales rather than leads or views, a purpose-built player like TrackPlay fits that job and bills on plays; use Wistia for the marketing or Cloudflare for the delivery underneath it.
